Creative H & I- exhibition: open photography show at the RWA

I was informed by my tutor Julian whilst at queens road, that there was an open photography show next door in the RWA. I enjoy photography alongside my main specialism graphic design so i went to have a look around. The exhibit had an entrance fee of a mere 4 pound but it was free for all UWE students which was a bonus. The show consisted of a mix of invited photographers as well as professional and amateur and clearly quite a few had decided to participate with 362 works by 221 artists. The exhibition is one to revisit or take a break in between as the the visitor is hit with the sheer number and diversity of the entries. There wasn't really any images that really stood out for the skill of the photographer and made me wonder how they did it, most of the works were subjective, of the quirky ugliness of urban life, nice pictures, but not brilliant.
As a creative practices student, I felt the exhibition allowed me to visualize and contextualize my own work, however with such a wide variety of styles it was difficult really understand each piece. The exhibition layout only made this situation worse.
